Bulk update of Country of birth

We have received numerous calls regarding errors in census caused by missing country of birth. We understand that you may not have  received your data collection sheets back from parents yet and therefore we are ensuring that all supported schools are aware of the bulk update tool which allows you to set “not yet obtained” for the country of birth field and therefore remove the census error.

Please note: We strongly advise that if this process is followed, you must ensure that the correct information is entered once received from the parents.

Key Stage Assessment Data

This Year CS System Leeds (Data management as was) have requested that the Key Stage 1 and 2 Teacher Assessment Data Returns are made by entering the data in your MIS system.  For the majority of customers this will be Capita SIMS.  In previous years they have always provided a spreadsheet version but have not offered this option this time around.

Connect-Up have already import the Template mark sheets in your SIMS system ready for you to enter the required data.  You do not need to be using SIMS for your curriculum assessment data, although Capita SIMS does have an excellent free Assessment Without Levels package built into it.

Please find below links to our guidance notes on how to make the returns.  If you have any problems following these notes then please contact the SIMS team on 0113 2105008.

Important – Pupil Premium Information

The analysis of pupil premium numbers in SIMS is dependant upon the pupil premium indicator box being ticked within section 9 additional information.

This tick box is used by SIMS to identify pupils eligible for pupil premium funding within Discover and SIMS Assessment.

The key to success file downloaded from the DfE secure site contains pupil records for pupils eligible for the pupil premium based on the last January Pupil Census.

It is important that a school contacts the previous school and confirms the eligibility of any pupil admitted after this date without a CTF file being imported.

A standard CTF file will contain Pupil Premium information therefore it is only those admitted without this process who will need to be manually confirmed with their previous school.

Sims in the Classroom

SIMS in the classroom Flyer has several powerful components designed to support teachers in the classroom including:

Discover allows SLT members, SENCO’s and behaviour mentors to report graphically from SIMS and present analysis without needing to access SIMS.

Take Register allows teachers to take registers directly in the classroom reducing administrative overhead.

Teacher View allows pupil details to be viewed  and teachers to “know their pupils”  and direct any assisted learning needs to meet the new stringent Ofsted and SEND requirements.

School Diary allows teachers to view school events, parent evenings, holidays, staff meetings and school trips.
Messaging allows staff  to send messages to other staff members or the school office.
