What is GDPR?

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was introduced in May 2016 and will be a legal requirement from 25th May 2018 which introduces new rules on documenting data processing activities and data protection if your business holds personally identifiable data on EU citizens. The data includes email addresses, customer addresses or lists and customer telephone numbers. More extensive than the current Data Protection Act the regulation extends the data rights of individual and requires organisation to develop clear policies and procedures to protect personal data. Under the new legislation if you suffer a breach of personal data you can incur fines of up to £20 million or 4% of annual turnover.
